A Message from the President

I hope this solicitation finds you and your loved ones safe and healthy during these turbulent and challenging times. The pandemic has impacted each and every one of us in Guttenberg in some way and has left all of us yearning for some semblance of “normal.” Our neighbors have lost many things since the crisis began in early March; some have lost loved ones, others have lost their source of income, and many others have lost the relative comforts that come with routine – dropping the children off at school, collecting a paycheck, buying groceries, and spending time with our extended families and friends.

The crisis has surfaced emergency needs within our community, and we are hopeful that we can begin to address those needs with the support of our close-knit community. Food insecurity has been a long-standing challenge for some of our community members, but staggering unemployment related to COVID-19 has magnified the challenge. Hundreds of our Guttenberg residents wake up every morning unclear about when or if they will eat a healthy meal each day. None of our residents should live with this uncertainty, and the Wayne D. Zitt, Jr. Civic Association is committed to ensuring that residents have a safe place to go to obtain healthy food for themselves and their families.

If you are in a position to support this effort, we are seeking start-up capital to establish and stock a food pantry as well as food donations to serve Guttenberg residents. We expect that this will be the first of many services provided to residents, as it has been identified as the most pressing need within our community. In the near future, we plan to offer additional services to benefit those in need, including mental health screenings and job placement support. Your investment is critical to our efforts, and we are grateful for any contribution that you might be in a position to make.
